Will BofA’s foreclosure rental program hit Calif?

Bank of America is testing a new idea that turns underwater borrowers facing foreclosure into renters in select states: Arizona, Nevada and New York. The program, called “Mortgage to Lease,” is not available in California — among the states hardest hit by the housing crisis — at least not yet. Read more here.

Lawsuit accuses company of foreclosure rescue scam.

Bella Homes LLC, a real estate investment company, and its principals are being sued by the federal government and the state of Colorado for allegedly preying on homeowners in foreclosure. Bella Homes LLC, is a limited liability company organized in Delaware. According to the lawsuit, the company operates from the principals’ private residences in Arizona and Georgia, and maintains “virtual offices” in Atlanta and Scottsdale, Arizona. Read more here.

Pending sales of existing homes up to nearly two-year high.

More Americans are signing contracts to buy existing homes than at any time in nearly two years, boosting the housing industry’s slow recovery, according to the National Assn. of Realtors’ index of pending home sales. The measure is up 2% to 97 in January after slipping 1.9% in December. The index of deals for previously owned homes is up 8% compared with the 89.8 level from January 2011. Read more here.
